On 11thJuly 2019, the activities of History Association for the academic year 2019-20 have been flagged off with official inauguration function by Chief Guest Dr John Thomas, Assistant Professor of History at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Guwahati. The auspicious function was held at the TB Ninan Hall of UC College Aluva. The common gathering was welcomed by the Association Secretary Mileena Saju, followed by a prayer song by 2nd BA History student Kavyashree. The Occasion was presided over by the Head of the Department Dr Juby John, who delivered the presidential speech and also formally introduced Dr John Thomas to the students. After which the Association Staff Council Advisor Ms Tresa Divya formally introduced the Association Secretary and Association Joint Secretary Mileena Saju and Sarath Anandan respectively to the students and also welcomed the contributions from the students for the proper and efficient functioning of the association. The inaugural message was given by the Chief Guest Dr John Thomas. In his speech, he enlightened the minds of young hearts by talking about the present endangered situation of History subject, where the present Government is trying to suppress the voice of historians and their works which actually brings out buried realities of the past to the limelight. He also mentions about his fear where in future the historians could be tagged as the Anti-Nationalist. Therefore he asked the students to take history subject in the most serious manner and save the subject from future allegations. At last he advised students to utilize the association to develop their skills. Followed by inaugural address a melodious song was sung by 1st year History student Anagha. Association Joint Secretary Sarath Anandan concluded the event with the formal vote of thanks.
