The department of History is a space where academics is always celebrated. Remembering the great legacy of ‘Historical Association’ incepted in 1929, History association’s official inauguration flagging off the 2016-17 activities was on 26 August 2016 at TB Ninan hall situated on the college premises. The people who kick started an association specially for History aimed at achieving academic as well as cultural upliftment of the students. Till now association has always fu
nctioned as a niche imbibing the objective of the very first ‘Historical Association’ accommodating pupil from different walks of life. The function was started with a power point presentation by the second DC students for familiarising the first year students, who are new to this setup, with the college and the department. The function presided over by Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Head of the department of the History, was inaugurated by Cheri Jacob, assistant professor of the English department. In his inaugural address, Cheri Jacob called for breaking boundaries erected among disciplines through effecting transdisciplinary methods. He said, he is looking at history and literature as systems of knowledge production for the present.The gathering was welcomed by Thara V., secretary of the association .The function was felicitated by Praveen, ex-secretary of the association. Dr. Sebastian Joseph and Dr. Twincy Varghese, former winning the prestigious ‘Historia’ award and the latter securing doctorate from the Mahatma Gandhi University, were honoured in the function. The function was awed with a musical performance of Anjali and a mimicry performance by Joseph, both from first DC. The function was concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Krishna K Shibu, association joint secretary. The inauguration itself is a reminder of the hope of conducting a vigorous association year ahead and everybody is looking forward for the same.
