Faculty Awarded research grant in Peace Building and Religious Studies

Dr.Jenee Peter is one among the five scholars to receive a grant from the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA) to participate in the MPI 2015 Annual Peace Building Training. This will be held at Mindanao Peace Building Institute an international organization at Davao city in Philippines. She will be away from the College from May 16th to June 6th 2015. There will be hundred participants from various countries. She will be attending three courses in three weeks and will benefit from a pool of renowned resource persons and participants from Palestine, South Africa, Canada and Philippines. The research cum travel grant was awarded on the basis of an on-going project on Inter Religious Understanding and Peace Building: Historic Continuum in Kerala which is funded by the United Board. Through the special training at Philippines in inter religious dialogue and conflict resolution, she is trying to understand the processes leading to the coexistence of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism in many parts of Kerala. These religions continued to evolve by borrowing from each other. She attempts to see if these processes were actually peaceful as being portrayed in contemporary records or were there episodes of violence in the regions long and chequered past. Thereby she looks for ways to counter the increasing religious fundamentalism among both minor and major communities in the contemporary Indian society.
