A Master’s Degree Dissertation in Archaeology submitted by Ms Athira.R.Pillai to the University of Kerala titled “The Megalithic Iron Implements from Kerala with special reference to Kunnukara and Okkal” is an attempt to document and study the collection of megalithic iron implements housed in the Archaeological museum at Union Christian College, Aluva. The study was initiated to understand the typology of megalithic iron implements but goes well beyond that and throws light on visualizing the various socio-cultural aspects of the megalithic builders in Kerala. This is one of the first comprehensive studies of the megalithic iron implements from the Iron Age sites in Kerala. In 1996-99 the Centre for Cultural and Ecological Studies and U.C Archaeological Museum salvaged artifacts from urn burials at Kunnukara and Okkal on the banks of river Periyar in Ernakulum district. The artifacts are displayed in the College Museum.
