International Rock Art Exhibition

A meeting of the officials of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and Union Christian

College was held in the College on 11 September 2014. Dr. A. Benny Cherian (Principal), Dr. Raju.K.John

(Manager), Dr B.L Malla ( Project Director Rock Art Department, IGNCA), Dr.Jenee Peter (Assistant

Professor, Department of History, U.C College) and Dr. Ranbeer Singh, (Project Associate Rock Art

Department, IGNCA) attended the meeting. An expert lecture on rock art of Kerala will be delivered by

Prof. M.G.S Narayanan, Director General, Centre for Heritage Studies (CHS), Tripunithura in the second

week of November in the College.

The College is a partner with IGNCA and CHS in the month long exhibition on rock art to be curated by

IGNCA in Hill Palace museum premises in November- December 2014. The exhibition was conceived

as part of the International Year of Rock art celebrations in 2012-13. Dr. Jenee Peter had participated

in the seminar organized as part of the celebrations at New Delhi in 2012. The exhibitions covering

rock art from all major continents of the world was a grand success. A mobile exhibition was designed

by IGNCA’s rock art department. This travelling exhibition will be displayed in China for a year. Within

India, the exhibition has already travelled to Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh;

Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, Assam; Odisha State Museum in Bhubaneswar in Orissa,

Pondicherry University, Pondicherry and the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru.

The exhibition committee was constituted with officials from IGNCA, CHS and U.C College. Dr. Jenee

Peter will be representing IGNCA for the exhibition in Kerala. Two workshops for children and college

students as well as two expert lectures will be held as part of the exhibition. Apart from this a few site

lectures are also planned.
