The activities of the history association for the academic year 2014-2015 were formally inaugurated
by writer, poet and Assistant Professor in the department of Malayalam, Dr. Sibu M. Modayil. In his
inaugural address, Dr. Sibu stressed the need for understanding history as a kind of literature and
implicated with some relevant examples the inter linkages between language, culture and history. In her
presidential address, Prof. Annie Jose, Head of the department, extended departmental support for the
Association. Dr. Sebastian Joseph, Staff Advisor, in his speech made a brief outline of the activities that
the association intends to organise this year. Akhil, Secretary and Vani, Assistant Secretary also spoke.
The meeting was attended by members of faculty and students.
Quiz Competition and talk on Quiz
History Association organised a quiz competition as its first programme in the current academic year
on 21-8-2014 for the department students. Three teams from the First, Third and Fifth Semester of B.A
and one team from the P.G section participated in the competition. Questions were asked from Indian
history with a focus on the national movement. The quiz was led by Vani of third semester B.A who is
also the Assistant Secretary to the association.
The programme started with a brief lecture on the importance of quiz by Sunil Abraham Thomas,
Assistant Professor in the department of Economics, who is also well known for his quiz programmes
in and outside the college. In his talk, he spoke about the importance of quiz in generating interest in
deeper reading of any event or concept that we come across in our daily life. As an example, he pointed
to the news pertaining to the stopping of the production of Ambassador cars in inspiring further reading
on the history of car manufacturing and its various realms.
