‘Cochin Forests and the British: Techno ecological Imperialism in India’, authored by Sebastian Joseph was released by eminent historian Prof. Irfan Habib at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The book was presented to him by Prof Sucheta Mahajan, Professor of Modern Indian History, Centre for Historical Studies, JNU. Published by PRIMUS, the book traces the forest history of the erstwhile princely state of Cochin set against the broad contextual background of the penetrative mission of colonial mapping and extraction of natural resources in India. From an environmental history perspective, the work engages critically with the landscape changes and colonial forest politics that had tremendously impacted the political ecology of the state.
