RESEARCH PROJECT TITLE: ‘TRANSMISSION OF SPICES FROM THE PERIYAR RIVER BASIN, KERALA DURING THE IRON AGE-EARLY HISTORIC PERIOD AND ITS IMPACT ON INDIAN OCEAN EXCHANGE’

AWARD TITLE: THE SMALL STUDY AND RESEARCH AWARD (INDIA) 2022-2023 BY THE NEHRU TRUST FOR THE INDIAN COLLECTIONS AT THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM

Dr. Jenee Peter collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team in this project. This research project is the result of the joint efforts of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of an archaeologist, a botanist, a geologist, two geographers and a maritime historian to understand the nature of the trade and exchange of spices from Kerala and the impact of such activities on Indian Ocean trade during the Iron Age-Early Historical period.

A workshop, which was held at Christ College, Irinjalakuda, Thrissur, Kerala, India on 5th January, 2023 each of the researchers in the team made presentations on the basis of their respective specialisations on the topic.
