The Department of History, Union Christian College, Aluva, in collaboration with the Kerala History Congress, organised the IHC–KHC Flagship Lecture Series on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, at V.M.H., Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala, as part of the programmes conducted in conjunction with the 84th Session of the Indian History Congress.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Tresa Divya T. J.
The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Biju R. I., Associate Professor and Head, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sree Narayana Guru Open University, Kollam, on the theme “Mapping Indian Nationalism: Ideas, Theories, and the Road to Nehru.” Drawing on his extensive research on colonial cultural strategies, theories of nationalism, and the interconnections between architecture and power, Dr. Biju offered a theoretically rigorous critique of dominant historiographical approaches and situated Nehru within broader intellectual traditions of Indian nationalism.
The second lecture was presented by Dr. Tintu K. Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of History, K. E. College, Mannanam, on “Nehruvian Nationalist Narratives and the Making of Modernity in India.” Engaging with Nehru’s vision of modernity, Dr. Joseph examined the intersections of ideology, social change, and nationalist discourse, informed by his expertise in diverse historical interactions.
The lectures were followed by an interactive discussion and a question–answer session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shela Mary Varghese, Staff Secretary, Department of History, Union Christian College, Aluva.
